Any one familiar with 03 ford explorers?

I was told by a mechanic that my solenoid boy needed replace on the transmission and then by another mechanic I was told that it needed a torque converter, not the solenoid. Which is more common with the ford explorers. The transmission jerks into reverse and sometimes while drive down the road
