I'm in a terrible jam and looking for suggestions. Please no jokes or snide remarks.?

Your best bet is to head to Springfield Missouri. It is one area that has never suffered a recession. It is close to Branson where a lot of country singers go to perform. I just had to mention branson as you will enjoy going there when you get back on your feet. There are several employment agencies such as Manpower. When I got out of the military I lived in Up State New York. Jobs can be real hard to find in Up State New York. The military recomended Springfield because of the diversity of Jobs in the Area. The first place I went was to the Green County Unemployment office. Before the Day was over I had a job as a tree trimmer. The trees grow fast there and they need help keeping the power lines clear. But, there are also a lot of factory jobs, Plastics Plants and it is home to the worlds largest sporting goods store "Outdoor World". The wages are not that high. As compared to California. But, the cost of living is much lower. When you consider all the variables you get to keep more of your money. Rent is pretty cheap. So, First you go to the nemployment office or Jobs service centers like "Manpower" Then you talk to a minister about your housing sitiation. In the Downtown area they have a homeless shelter. They have a kurfew so you need to be in at a certain time. But, if you have a job then the churches of Springfield may put you in a motel temporarily. It is a good idea to get involved with a church as they can help you with that family that you need. The people in this part of the world are real hospitable. Once you have a job and a place to stay then you can work on getting transportation. Just west of springfield, before you get to the city of republic they have the nations largest citizens car auction. You can get a real good deal on a car if you know what to look for. I bought a 1979 ford Thunderbird there for $700. Once you get settled you will be able to enjoy the nature centers, hiking trails, and many caves that they have in that area. Also, in Nixa just south of springfield they have an annual crawfish cookout that you might enjoy. Hope this helps.
